With DIAMOND being primarily a model development project, we have worked towards leveraging stakeholders’ experience and expertise and, through a transdisciplinary process, co-develop models that are useful and transparent. A sequence of three strategic foresight workshops was thus organised by the project during its second phase to align stakeholder needs and expectations with our model development objectives:
The Model Requirements Workshop, held online on September 13, 2024, used plenaries and thematic breakouts to co-define requirements for improving IAMs, focusing on sectoral and technological detail, behavioural representation, finance and labour, land–water–food systems, circular economy, and explicit treatment of uncertainty, extremes, and tipping points.
In the next Scenario Foresight Workshop, held online on November 12, 2024, we brought together stakeholders and modellers to explore alternative trajectories of incremental vs transformative change for decarbonisation and climate neutrality, aiming to co-create scenarios to shape future pathways.
The Citizen Engagement Workshop, held online on September 30, 2025, convened a focus group of experienced climate-assembly participants from Milan and Bologna to elicit lived experiences of climate policies and socially acceptable behavioural changes in mobility, domestic energy, and wellbeing/consumption, underlining the importance of affordability, infrastructure access, and participatory governance.
